Who am I?

This blog is a multilayered mix of those connections and experiences that stir my spirit. As a poet, writer, retired nurse, intuitive, and one who sees in-between and beyond, I live life from a holistic perspective. I feel blessed by meaningful loving relationships, and by all my connections with the universe including nature, trees,  spirit guides, angels, saints, and totem animals. The insights,  awareness, and energetic connections that I feel run like a thread between my human self, my soul and my spirit.

My novel HATTIE published in September 2012 received twelve awards, and is a book club favorite. http://www.amazon.com/Hattie-Anna-Bozena-Bowen/dp/1937650162 Hattie is a testament to the multidimensional aspects of our human and spiritual lives;  it is about the in-between and beyond, it is about being being human, it is about soul and spirit and so much more. I began writing poetry in my mid twenties, but my poetry, prose, and creative thinking  found a much larger place in my life when I went back to college as a non traditional student in the late 1980s. Back then, as much as I loved being a nurse, I felt something was missing in my life.  So I decided to start with one summer course – The Short Story – at Holyoke Community College. There I fell in love with writing and literature, and it is then that I began writing Hattie.  I graduated from HCC, and went on to UMass Amherst where I got my BA in English and a minor in Women’s Studies.  A published poet, I was also a contributing author to Take Back Your Life: Recovering from Cults and Other Abusive Relationships (2006).

As a nurse,  most of my twenty five years in the health field were in critical care areas (ICU/CCU),  a women’s psychiatric trauma unit, and in home care.  In the late 1980s I developed my own journaling and collaging techniques as part of my personal healing journey; later I incorporated these techniques into my work with  others. As a counselor, educator, and consultant, my contributions included educational workshops on the benefits of journaling and collaging as healing tools. I presented at local and national conferences, was a guest speaker at colleges, and facilitated groups for adult survivors of sexual and ritual abuse using a group model I developed. In 2007, I received a Holistic Nursing Certificate in Integrative Healing Arts, and in 2010 I became a SoulCollage(R) facilitator.

I am a member of the International Women’s Writing Guild (IWWG), and the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA). I enjoy creative cooking, sharing good food and wine with friends and family, having meaningful conversations, helping others in their life journeys, and traveling to Maui, Kauai, and Calistoga Ranch where I feel like I am home.
